Prop firms for beginners
Compare the floor, fee, and trading days
A more forgiving first challenge has rules you can track: a fixed loss floor or an end-of-day trailing floor, an affordable fee, no completion deadline, and a minimum trading-day requirement that fits your pace. These criteria tell you when your loss allowance changes, how long you can work toward the target, and whether waiting costs another monthly fee.
The floor is the account's lower loss boundary. A static floor stays fixed relative to the starting balance. An end-of-day trailing floor moves upward based on closing balances rather than during the session. It is still a loss limit, not permission to ignore losses during the day.
FTMO's 2-Step lists a static maximum loss limit, no time limit, and at least 4 trading days. Topstep Labs Static Combine also lists a fixed floor, but has a 90-day lifespan. Tradeify Growth and Select list end-of-day trailing floors and no completion time limit while active and within drawdown. Alpha Futures evaluations have no time limit and end-of-day trailing floors that stop at the starting balance.
Separate a low starting fee from a low total cost. As listed in October 2026, Topstep Standard's 50K account costs $49 per month, with a $149 activation fee per Express Funded Account earned. Tradeify Growth's 25K evaluation costs $99 one-time with no activation fee. These are different account sizes and fee structures, not equivalent offers.
Minimum days and completion deadlines answer different questions. Tradeify Growth can pass in 1 trading day; Select normally requires 3 trading days. Topstep Standard has no minimum time requirement to pass, but the published rules do not state a completion deadline. A missing deadline statement is not confirmation of unlimited time.
Sorted by lowest listed fee, unknown fees last. Monthly fees are compared per month. This order is arithmetic, not a paid placement.

As listed in October 2026, Standard 50K costs $49 per month plus $149 activation; its end-of-day trailing floor locks at the starting balance. Labs Static 50K costs $149 one-time with free activation and a fixed $2,000 loss limit, but adds a mandatory $1,000 daily limit, 55% consistency target, and 90-day lifespan. The pages do not list its fee. Payout eligibility requires qualifying profit on 5 separate days each cycle. Pro, Flex, and Direct require daily position closure, so they do not suit overnight holding.

Understand what fails or delays an account
Read the loss rules before the profit target. A 50K label does not mean you can lose $50,000: Topstep Standard lists a $2,000 maximum loss allowance on that size, as does My Funded Futures Builder's default 50K account. Check the plan and stage because evaluation rules and funded payout rules can differ.
- A trailing floor can rise after profitable sessions. Topstep Standard's maximum loss limit rises with your end-of-day balance, never moves down, and locks at the starting balance. This hurts traders who expect their original loss allowance to remain unchanged after growth.
- A daily limit can pause trading rather than fail the account. Tradeify Growth's 25K daily loss limit is $600: reaching it stops trading for the day but does not fail the account. My Funded Futures Builder lists a $1,000 soft-pause daily limit. The separate maximum loss rule still applies.
- No daily loss limit does not mean no loss limit. Tradeify Select has no evaluation daily limit, but its 25K evaluation has a $1,000 end-of-day trailing maximum drawdown. FTMO 2-Step separately limits daily loss to 5% and total loss to 10% of initial simulated capital.
- Consistency can delay passing or withdrawing. Tradeify Select requires 40% evaluation consistency. Take Profit Trader says a single day cannot make 50% or more of the test profit target; you can continue trading rather than fail. Its wording also refers to the biggest day no longer exceeding 50%, so confirm the boundary on the official page.
- Minimum days still apply after reaching a target. FTMO 2-Step requires at least 4 trading days. My Funded Futures Rapid EOD requires 4 evaluation trading days and 30% evaluation consistency. Reaching the profit target alone does not complete these requirements.
- Position-closing rules can rule out your strategy. Tradeify prohibits overnight holding and requires positions to close daily. My Funded Futures Builder requires closing positions before the session ends. These plans do not suit a strategy that needs positions held through those cutoffs.
- News permissions can change after evaluation. Take Profit Trader allows news trading in the Test but restricts specific major news events in PRO and PRO+. Alpha Futures Zero, Standard, and Direct Qualified Accounts prohibit execution within 2 minutes before or after relevant high-impact news; existing positions may be held under its policy.
Treat the fee as money you can lose
Challenges are paid evaluations on simulated accounts. Most traders do not pass, and the fee is usually lost when they fail. Funded accounts are also simulated at most firms. The pages we read do not establish firm-specific pass rates, so a fixed floor or unlimited completion time is not evidence of favorable odds.
Size the fee as money you can lose without needing a payout to recover it. Include subscriptions and activation charges. Tradeify says all sales are final, My Funded Futures evaluation fees are non-refundable, and Topstep says most fees are non-refundable. FTMO's 2-Step refund requires passing and receiving the first reward withdrawal.
A short evaluation is not immediate payout eligibility. Tradeify Growth requires 5 profitable trading days between funded payout requests, with account-specific daily profit thresholds. LucidFlex requires qualifying profit on 5 separate days per payout cycle. Factor those requirements into your choice rather than relying on a quick withdrawal. This page is not financial advice.
Questions people ask
Which prop firms have static drawdown for beginners?
FTMO 2-Step lists a static maximum loss limit of 10% of initial simulated capital and no time limit. Topstep Labs Static Combine also has a fixed floor, but lasts 90 days. Topstep Standard and Alpha Futures use trailing floors that lock later, not static floors from the start.
Which prop firms have no challenge time limit?
Tradeify Growth and Select have no completion time limit while active and within drawdown. Alpha Futures evaluations and both listed FTMO challenge types also state no time limit. Monthly fees can still make extra time costly.
Can I pass a prop firm challenge in one day?
Tradeify Growth and Alpha Futures Zero state that you can pass in 1 trading day; My Funded Futures Builder lists a 1 day minimum. You must still meet the target and loss rules. Funded payout eligibility has separate requirements, so passing quickly does not establish an immediate withdrawal right.
Do prop firms refund failed challenge fees?
Tradeify says all sales are final, My Funded Futures evaluation fees are non-refundable, and Topstep says most fees are non-refundable. FTMO's 2-Step refund comes with the first reward withdrawal after passing, not after failing. Budget the fee as a possible loss.
