Prop firm consistency rules explained
What a consistency rule limits
A consistency rule limits how much of your profit can come from a single day, trade or position. A largest-day rule measures your largest profitable day against the profit amount the firm defines. A single-trade rule measures an individual trade instead. The consequence depends on the program: the rule may affect passing an evaluation or qualifying for a payout.
The5ers Futures Day Trade states: "One trade cannot represent more than 40% of total profits. If it does, continue trading until its share falls to 40% or less." This measures a trade, not a whole trading day, and explicitly allows further trading to satisfy the rule.
We read the official firm pages in October 2026. Check the exact program and stage before paying: challenges are paid evaluations on simulated accounts. Most traders do not pass, and the fee is usually lost when they fail. Funded accounts are also simulated at most firms.

How the profit share is calculated
For a largest-day share, divide your largest profitable day by the profit total defined in the rule. A 40% ceiling means that day cannot represent more than 40% of that total. Additional profit on other days can reduce its share. A new, larger profitable day can change the calculation again.
The boundary matters. Apex’s PA wording prohibits a day representing 50% or more, so exactly 50% does not satisfy it. My Funded Futures Builder prohibits more than 50%, allowing exactly 50%. LucidPro states at most 40%, and LucidDirect states at most 20%. Do not treat these boundaries as interchangeable.
The denominator—the amount you divide by—also matters. FTMO 1-Step uses the combined profit of positive days, not simply total account profit. Take Profit Trader’s initial wording uses the test profit target, but its continuation wording refers to the biggest day’s share falling to 50%. Confirm the calculation and boundary on the official page before relying on further trading.
Trade The Pool FLEX Day and FLEX Swing use 50% of the profit target; MAX Swing uses 30% of the profit target. MAX Day instead uses 30% of total valid profit unless otherwise specified. Unlike a growing profit total, a fixed profit target does not automatically increase when you earn more.
Where prop firms apply the rule
An evaluation rule governs passing; a funded-account rule applies after that stage; a payout-cycle rule measures profit within a defined reward period. A program can have no evaluation rule and still restrict payouts. Check the applicable stage as well as the percentage.
- Topstep: Standard and No Activation Fee Trading Combines limit the largest trading day’s share of total profits, but the published wording does not state their percentage. Labs Static Drawdown and Freedom Trading Combines list 55%. These are Trading Combine requirements; the pages we read do not establish a funded-stage rule.
- Apex: the Intraday Trailing Drawdown Evaluation entry gives a PA rule, not an evaluation percentage. No profitable day may represent 50% or more of profit since the last approved payout. EOD Evaluation has no evaluation consistency rule; Live Prop Trading Program Level 1 also states none.
- Tradeify: Growth has no evaluation requirement. Select uses 40% during evaluation only, removing it when funded under either Flex or Daily payouts. Lightning is funded instantly and lists progressive payout consistency of 20%, then 25%, then 30%; the published wording does not state when each percentage changes.
- Take Profit Trader: the Trading Test restricts a day making 50% or more of the test profit target. Its wording says this does not fail you and you can continue trading. PRO has no consistency rule.
- My Funded Futures: Builder has no evaluation rule but caps its largest day at 50% of payout-cycle profits, checked at the payout request and reset after approval. Rapid and Pro list 50% during evaluation only; Rapid EOD lists 30% during evaluation only. Rapid funded trading explicitly has no consistency rule.
- Lucid Trading: LucidFlex uses 50% during evaluation and none when funded. LucidPro requires payout-cycle consistency at or below 40%; LucidDirect requires at or below 20%. LucidDaily states no funded consistency rule.
- Alpha Futures: Zero has no evaluation rule, then 40% on Qualified Accounts. Standard uses 50% during evaluation and 40% when qualified. Advanced uses 40% during evaluation and none when qualified. Direct uses 20% on Qualified Accounts, with withdrawal profit targets instead of winning days.
- FTMO: 1-Step caps the largest profitable day at 50% of positive days’ combined profit, both to pass the challenge and to qualify for an FTMO Account Reward.
- FundedNext: Flex lists 40% during the challenge only. Stellar Instant explicitly states no consistency rules. Stellar 2-Step lists Consistency N/A; that is not the same wording as an explicit statement that no rule applies.
- The5ers: Futures Day Trade limits one trade to 40% of total profits and allows continued trading until its share reaches 40% or less. The published wording does not identify the applicable stage.
- FundingPips: 2 Step Pro’s monthly rewards require no day above 35% of total profit. The calculation resets after each reward.
- E8 Markets: E8 One limits a day to 40% of total generated profits; the published wording does not identify the stage. E8 Pro states no consistency rules. E8 Zero Starter and Max apply consistency only during the challenge, with none in Performance; the challenge percentage is not stated here.
- Breakout: Classic, Pro and Turbo state no consistency rule on any Breakout account. Funded accounts also explicitly retain no consistency rule.
- Trade The Pool: FLEX Day measures the largest profitable position against 50% of the profit target; FLEX Swing measures the largest profitable trade against 50%. MAX Day uses a 30% position-profit ratio unless otherwise specified; MAX Swing caps the largest profitable trade at 30% of the target. The published wording does not identify the stages.
Programs that explicitly state no rule
For evaluations, explicit no-rule statements cover Apex EOD, Tradeify Growth, My Funded Futures Builder and Alpha Futures Zero. That does not establish unrestricted funded trading: Builder introduces payout-cycle consistency, and Alpha Zero introduces consistency on Qualified Accounts.
After evaluation, explicit no-rule statements cover Tradeify Select, Take Profit Trader PRO, My Funded Futures Rapid, LucidFlex funded, LucidDaily funded, Alpha Advanced Qualified Accounts and E8 Zero Performance. Apex Live Level 1 also states none, but that statement should not be extended to other levels.
FundedNext Stellar Instant and E8 Pro explicitly state no consistency rules. Breakout states none across Classic, Pro and Turbo, including funded accounts. FundedNext Stellar 2-Step’s N/A listing is excluded from this explicit-none list. No consistency rule does not remove separate loss limits or payout conditions.
How to track the rule while trading
- Track the measured unit: day, trade or position. Spreading trades within one day does not necessarily reduce your largest day’s share.
- For rules based on total profit, profit earned on other days can reduce your largest day’s share. That does not promise a pass or payout.
- Check whether the denominator is total profit, positive days’ profit or a fixed profit target before calculating your percentage.
- Read payout-cycle reset wording. Builder resets after an approved payout, Apex references the last approved payout, and FundingPips resets after each reward.
- Check the funded-stage rule separately before choosing an evaluation with no consistency requirement.
- Do not assume exceeding the share immediately fails an account. Take Profit Trader and The5ers explicitly allow continued trading; the pages we read do not establish the same consequence elsewhere.
Questions people ask
What is a prop firm consistency rule?
It limits the share of profit attributable to one day, trade or position. The firm’s wording determines the percentage, profit base and stage where it applies.
Does exceeding a consistency rule fail the account?
Not always. Take Profit Trader says its rule does not fail you, and The5ers allows continued trading until the largest trade’s share falls to 40% or less. The pages we read do not establish a universal consequence for other programs.
Does the consistency rule reset after a payout?
My Funded Futures Builder resets after each approved payout, and FundingPips 2 Step Pro resets after each reward. Apex’s PA rule measures profit since the last approved payout. Do not assume every program uses that reset.
Does FTMO have a consistency rule?
FTMO 1-Step limits the largest profitable day to 50% of positive days’ combined profit. It applies to passing the challenge and eligibility for an FTMO Account Reward. These facts do not establish the rule for other FTMO programs.
